Discover Resilience:

A Primer in Cultivating Somatic Awareness and Thinking for Well-Being and Quality of Life

It feels good to feel good and there is so much in this life to enjoy and explore! The resilience, plasticity and adaptability of the human body, and a human being’s ability to grow, recover from and adapt to change is incredible to say the least!

But what happens when we don’t feel good because of aches and pains in our bodies or when we don’t resolve the accumulation of discomfort and tension? Our quality of life starts to suffer because of it and we’re not able to do the things we enjoy, because we start to feel limited in our movements, strengths, and capabilities. Most will just blame these things on “getting old”. But, why is it that some of us seem to be shackled in our bodies in our thirties while others are running marathons in their sixties and seventies? What exactly is going on here? Obviously, time is not the only factor. Not to mention some of us just seem to get it, while others will run from expert to expert, often without any real or meaningful understanding, change or results.

In our modern world, we’ve done a great job at extending the length of our lives, but not such a great job at expanding the quality of life at the same time. After all, what good is life if we can’t enjoy it because of physical aches, pains, and set-backs? What good is it to live to a hundred or extend our lives by a decade or two, if we’re physically unable to enjoy that time?

The quality of our life matters and that quality has everything to do with how we feel in our bodies. Most of us move through life without much thought being given to how our bodies are accomplishing the things that they are, let alone understanding much about how they move and work in the first place. So, how could we possibly effect change and start to feel better if we don’t understand how the very mechanisms of who and what we are work, or why these changes in our bodies even happen?

So long as one is willing to put in the time and effort towards positive change, the only thing missing would be knowledge and understanding. The solution then is to start to become aware of and understand how and why change happens, as well as some of the most basic mechanisms of how our bodies and beings function in the first place.

Join us for an insightful, day-long, immersive learning experience in a relaxed environment that will leave you feeling empowered and enriched with the knowledge and understanding necessary to create change from within. An exploration into intentional, purposeful, and mindful living for well-being and quality of life.

We have taken the time, effort and energy to put together a compact, yet very impactful summary of knowledge normally reserved for those who take on careers or studies in the wellness fields. The compartmentalization of wellness however and the demand of time, means that even most of the experts in these fields aren’t usually able to deliver the bigger picture to each of their clients in a satisfactory way.

We believe that all humans are innately resilient, and possess the ability to play an active role in their own health and well-being. By integrating our knowledge and experience over time we have created quality, easy to understand content that will leave you with a thorough and clear understanding of the why and how of feeling good. The purpose of this day is to relay simple, yet highly important concepts that are the true keys to creating change in our bodies and lives. Throughout the day we aim to provide the understanding and tools necessary for one to start to succeed at moving towards optimal well-being and a sustainable quality of life.

We take a somatic approach because we are a whole being and our mind and nervous system is not separate from our bodies or our feelings. How we think, how we feel and our daily activities and (conscious or unconscious) habits will either lead us towards dis-ease and discomfort or towards health, wellness and feeling good. A somatic approach involves not just sensing and knowing the body from the inside to effect change, but also becoming aware of and adapting our interactions with, and our reactions to our environments.

Learn to see your body and life in a new, unique and purposeful way in a relaxed environment with a small number of participants to allow for quality transmission of information, as well as the ability for everyone participating to be seen and heard. Come to understand and be mindful of the fact that everything that we do, think and feel within a day has everything to do with how we feel in our bodies. Gain the tools necessary to develop the habit of living intentionally and with purpose, the end goal being that we feel good in our bodies and are able to enjoy life.

Rather than a highly structured blue print of What-to-do, we will spend the day focused on and exploring the How and Why of change, allowing for the cultivation of a new awareness and understanding, leaving you feeling better equipped to effect change in a positive way and start opening up to what more life might have to offer.

What to expect: Up to eight participants per class. We will be on the floor, living room style, with bolsters and individual space and plenty of room to be comfortable. Expect some light, non- weight bearing movements throughout the day. We will be covering topics such as anatomy and physiology, as well as Somatics and neuromuscular plasticity in an easy to understand and discussion style format with plenty of opportunity for questions and thorough understanding. An appropriate lunch will be served.

We will be hosting this learning experience on four different Saturdays this Spring, from 9am to 4:30pm. In true pop-up fashion, the first being offered is next Saturday, March 30th
